Soleier (German pickled eggs) in jar with the toppings |
Soleier (German pickled eggs) are hard boiled eggs, which are put into salty seasoning water and stayed into for minimum 2 days. In the region where I live, eating "Soleier" is one of traditions in a family to celebrate Easter. They are usually served at Easter brunch.
With my German Conversation Club I had experience to taste these soleier. Not only delicious, but the way to eat Soleier is also unique for me.Eating Pickled Eggs (Soleier) like a German

Seasoning the Soleier
After peeling the egg, cutoff just a little bit from the egg's bottom in order to have a securely standing egg. Then cut the egg in half and remove the egg yolk carefully.
So we have a little hole where we can put something into.
In the egg white hollow, drop vinegar into the hole, subsequently the oil, salt and pepper.
Put again the yolk into the hole then choose the ingredients we want to put into afterward.
They could be Salt (Salz), Pepper (Pfeffer), Vinegar (Essig), Oil (öl), Mustard (Senf) or Maggi (common black sauce in Germany)
